Mortlach, a 15-year-old single malt from the Six Kingdoms, is the ninth release in Diageo’s Game of Thrones Collection. It was matured in first-fill sherry casks and finished in American oak bourbon casks. The limited edition single malt is bottled at 46% ABV and presented in a metallic gold presentation tube adorned with a pen and ink drawing of the enigmatic three-eyed raven (also known as Bran the Broken). Although the show may be over, its legacy will live on in the form of this exquisite whisky!
Available in a 700ml bottle, at 46% abv.
TASTING NOTES
APPEARANCE
Dark amber.
NOSE
To start, it reminds me of a forest fire in the distance. Tanned leather underlies the smoke. The whisky is very earthy, but it has a sharpness of acetone that detracts from it. There’s a bit of orange peel and a faint scent of table grapes.
TASTE
The mouthfeel is velvety soft with a heaviness and weight to it. Oddly enough, it isn’t a viscous weight. At the beginning, the whisky is quickly sweet with bruleed sugar. Orange peel is bold before transitioning into oak. Smoke finishes the dram while leather lingers on the tongue for the aftertaste.
