I was looking through some of my old papers and came across this letter from Stuart Thomson, the then distillery manager. I remember driving around Specialist whisky shops when the distillery was closed hunting down the old 10 year old as at that time there was no prospect of the distillery producing again. When it did open again I got some inside information from a friend who was one of the team that recommissioned the distillery back in the 1980's. Proud to be an early member of the Ardbeg Committee No.163. I have visited Islay several times and always take in a tour of the distillery: was also luck enough to have stayed at Bunnahabhain at one of the cottages. The Ardbeg Committee has since flourished and now has over 120,000 members . For all those who love Ardbeg keep drink it (in moderation) and hopefully the days of it closing again are long gone.
