The Arran Single Malt selected for this cask strength expression underwent a meticulous maturation process. Initially, it was matured in first-fill ex-Bourbon barrels for seven years, allowing it to develop its rich flavours. Subsequently, it was transferred to smaller Quarter casks also crafted from the finest American oak for an additional two years. This transition to smaller casks, specifically 125 litres in size, resulted in significantly increased contact between the whisky and the oak, leading to a faster and more intense maturation.
In the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries, small casks were a common feature of the Arran whisky trade. They were easier to handle and transport around the island. With this new core range Quarter Cask expression, the distillery proudly revives this tradition, bringing it back to life.
The culmination of this process is a full-bodied expression of Arran Single Malt, characterized by a harmonious blend of power and finesse. It exudes a captivating aroma of rich vanilla sweetness and bold peppery spice. Bottling this whisky at its natural cask strength, without the use of chill-filtration or artificial colouring, ensures that it presents its purest form.
The expression is bottled at 70cl with a natural cask strength of 56.2% alcohol by volume. It retains its natural colour and is non-chill-filtered.
